The Afasic Youth Project for Young People with Communication Impairments
If you’ve enjoyed our blog, found it useful or even if you’ve just got a bit of loose change in your pocket then please consider supporting the Afasic Youth Project
The Afasic Youth Project is unique… It’s the only dedicated Youth Club you can go to in London if you are a young person with Speech, Language and Social Communication difficulties. Incredible really when you think that we live in a city of 20 million people where 1 in 10 of us have a communication impairment…
For the past 12 years young people who would most likely be sitting in their bedrooms by themselves on a Friday night have had a place to go to build social networks and enjoy a social life that many people take for granted. Don’t think that it’s all fun and games though because the exceptional partnership between the Project’s Youth Worker Leader and their Speech and Language Therapist means they have a highly developed programme of UK Youth Achievement Award challenges which teach young people the essential skills they need to independently access and enjoy the world around them as they become adults…
Having spent some Friday nights (and a very tiring weekend!) with the youth project, we at VideoProfiling are constantly impressed, inspired and humbled by the work that they do and we don’t think it’s fair that the young people should worry that their Friday night hang-out should be in danger of closing down. That’s why we’re trying to raise awareness of the great work that Clare, Chi, Sham and Sagan and all of the volunteers do and the MASSIVE impact it has for the young people and families of Redbridge who access the youth project.
Please help us raise money for the Afaisic Youth Project. Donate, sponsor us, tell your friends or join us in raising money for an AMAZING AND UNIQUE project that enables young people with communication impairment and their families to look forward to their weekend.
